U2charist III - October 22, 2010

A message from Katie-Scarlett MacGillivray, Youth Pastor, St Paul’s Cathedral
Youth Synod & Conference Coordinator, Diocese of Huron

I have exciting news to share with you today! On October 22nd, 2010 our Diocese will be hosting our third annual U2Charist service. U2 Tribute Band `Elevation` will be filling the cathedral with powerful and modern music illustrating God`s love and our relationships with others. Each year we raise money for various initiatives to support people around the world, including the people of Mthatha, South Africa and the Keiskamma Trust.

This year is special to both me and the youth of CLAY 2010. After each Canadian Lutheran Anglican Youth Gathering there is a two-year challenge set for CLAY attendees to share with their churches, deaneries, and dioceses. The CLAY National Planning Committee has announced that our goal is `12 for 2012`: to build 12 sustainable communities by 2012. Funds are directed towards this project through both the Primate`s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF) and Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR). The cost for building one community is $5000. At previous U2Charists our efforts have raised $7500 for Mthatha and $5000 for Keiskamma Trust. I know that in one night alone we can raise the money to build a sustainable community in a developing country (and enjoy some great music at the same time)!

After such a fabulous CLAY gathering with the Lutheran youth, I couldn`t imagine any other way of celebrating such a delightful night than with them! Thus, I ask you to invite your neighbouring Evangelical Lutheran Parishes and Parishioners to join us in this fabulous effort to help others around the world and celebrate God through the moving music of U2.

Our Annual Pizza Party is being held at the Cathedral at 6:30, just prior to the 8pm Eucharist. Each youth group (big or small), is asked to raise as much money as possible towards a sustainable community for 12 for 2012. The team that raises the most will get a prize. This is a great way to start off your Church School year. It is a terrific accomplishment to fundraise money to help create a sustainable community in a developing country, and enjoy the immediate reward of a Pizza Party and a free night of singing and dancing to U2. Please RSVP with your church name and the number of youth planning to attend the party, Katie-Scarlett MacGillivray.

Help ensure that this year's U2CHARIST will raise the necessary $5000 to be one of the “12 for 2012”.
