Bishop Bob Bennett has indicated to Archbishop Colin Johnson his intention to retire as Bishop of Huron, effective November 1, 2016.
Bishop Bob was ordained a deacon on May 1, 1974, priested on May 8, 1975 and consecrated a bishop on September 14, 2002. On October 25, 2008, he was elected the 12th Bishop of Huron.
Bishop Bob has served the parishes of Trinity, Simcoe, St. John’s, Woodhouse and Port Ryerse Memorial Church; Holy Trinity, Chesley, Christ Church, Tara and Church of the Ascension, Paisley; St. George’s, Kitchener; St. Mark’s, Brantford and All Saints’, Windsor.
Bishop Bob has also been regional dean of Brant, a canon of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, archdeacon of Brant-Norfolk and Oxford and archdeacon of Essex. He been a member of Provincial and General Synod, the Council of General Synod, the Provincial Executive, the Diocesan Council, the Diocesan Sub-Council, the Nominating Committee, the Deacons’ Board, the Postulancy Board, the Safe Church Committee, the Sexual Assault Response Team, the Catechumenate Network, the Sesquicentennial Planning Group, the Implementation Task Force, the Human Resources Committee, the Pension Trustees, the Bishop’s Clergy Conference Planning Committee, the Doctrine and Worship Committee, the Companion Diocese Committee, the Diocesan Executive Staff, the Committee on the Revision of Constitution and Canons, the Strategic Plan Implementation Group, the Bishop Luxton Memorial Scholarship Committee, the McConnell Trust Fund Committee, the Renew Committee, the Council of Advice, the Administration and Finance Committee and the Synod Organizational Committee. He has been the Bishop to ACPO, a member of the Corporation of Renison University College and the Chair of the Huron University College Corporation.
A retirement celebration for Bishop Bob will be held in the fall.
